Jory Yarmoff, President
Jory is a native New Yorker who has lived in Riverside since 1989. He is a Professor of Physics and the Associate Dean of the Physical and Mathematical Sciences at UC Riverside. He was brought up in the Orthodox tradition for a small portion of his childhood, and then Bar Mitzvah'd in a Conservative synagogue. Following his Bar Mitzvah, he was not affilated at all until joining Temple Beth El, where he has found a compatible vision of Judaism. His first TBE board position was Membership chair, which he held for three years prior to being elected as Vice President/President-Elect. He plays guitar with Restless Diesel, and spends as much time as he can with his wife and daughter. |

Kara Gilman, Vice President/President-Elect
Kara's previous positions at Temple Beth El include Secretary, Senior Youth Group President (which used to be a nonvoting position on the Board) and Finance Director. A California native, Kara earned a B.A. in Math w/ Spanish minor at UCR and her M.A. in Education from Claremont Graduate University which led to her position as a High School Math Teacher at Riverside Unified School District. She loves being a part of a worldwide community with values like hers - spirituality and social justice. |

Harry Freedman, Treasurer
Harry’s family moved to Riverside from Los Angeles in 1960, and he has been a member of Temple Beth El ever since. He earned his degree in psychology from UCR, and worked for a community based counseling agency for 28 years before becoming Executive Director of First 5 Riverside in 2004. He and his wife Sandy were married at TBE 30 years ago, and have a 14 year old son, Joshua. They are very appreciative of being a part of the TBE family. |

Kristen Schechtman, Secretary
Kristen was born and raised in the Southern California beach cities and moved to Riverside in 1987. She attended California State University Fullerton where she received her B.A. in Speech Communications in 1989. After being in the corporate sales field, Kristen volunteered in public schools for seven years. She returned to school herself and received a Multiple Subject teaching credential in 2004. She teaches first grade in Riverside and spends her time with her husband, Steve, and their two sons, Jacob and Ben. In addition to spending time with family and close friends, Kristen enjoys outdoor activities and power walks. She has been a member of Temple Beth El for 14 years. |

Sandy Tarmo , Fund Development
Sandra Tarmo was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She attended the University of Colorado as a Music Major and received her degree from California State University Northridge in Music Education. She has a California teaching credential signed by Ronald Reagan. She has volunteered her time in many different temple activities among them: the choir, sisterhood president, assistant cashier for bingo, and a teacher in the religious school. Sandra is also the director of a woman’s choral group. She is married, the mother of two, and grandmother of three. Her hobbies include needlepoint, cooking, and of course music.

Mitch Lavine, Buildings and Grounds
Mitch has been a member of Temple Beth El for over 12 years. He started on the board as Youth Group adviser. Mitch has been active with the Boy Scouts of America for over 42 years. Mitch currently works for an Insurance restoration company as an estimating project manager.

Ryan Lester-Wilson,
Religious Education and TBECDC
Ryan has been a member of Temple Beth El for 6 years, serving on the Board as Finance Director and Treasurer. He has lived in California since 1972, and enjoyed a rewarding career as a Manager of Information Systems, for financial services companies. He and his spouse Randy enjoy spending time with their son Sean and being involved in as many Temple activities as time permits.

Leila Price, Special Projects
Leila is currently working with TBE's
volunteers. Leila and her husband Dan came to Riverside six years
ago from the Washington, D.C. area, where they had lived
for forty-four years, thirty of them as members of the
Bethesda Jewish Congregation. TBE is a very welcoming
Congregation! |
